Help wanted

It's that time again - a Chums work party this Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 7568 Birch Bay Drive from 10 a.m. to noon.  Come along with your work gloves and weeding tools. We'll supply drinking water and a voucher to The Bay Cafe or the C Shop as a reward for your effort.

The past few work parties have consisted of the Murphys, the Nair Family and Ruth & Al. There is plenty of work to go around and we have found that many hands do make light work.

Come on along to nurture the 800 plus Sitka Spruce and Western Red Cedar saplings. Enjoy the satisfaction of growing trees to enhance the environment for salmon. These trees will be given away next spring to property owners in the Terrell Creek watershed.

Becoming a Chum of Terrell Creek is simple: show up at a work party and you're in! Comment here to ask for more information.

Discovery Days Parade, July 17, 2010

Thanks to several Chums of Terrell Creek, including the Nairs, Murphys, Lyons, Freidlobs and Chuis, Sammy and Samantha Salmon strutted in Birch Bay's Discovery Days Parade on Saturday, July 17.

Shanti Nair, Artistic Director, managed Samantha's make-over; Kamal Nair inhabited Sammy's skin; Nirmal Nair created the Chums banner that graced the front of Roger Murphy's pick-up truck with mom May Lyn Nair and Rishi Nair, sitting on a bale of straw in the bed playing his bongos, flute and didgeridoo.Pround papa Mahen Nair helped keep everyone on beat and on time. The Lyons family, the Friedlobs and the Chui family, along with members of the extended Nair family supported Samantha along the 1.1 mile parade route of Birch Bay Drive from the C Shop on Alderson Rd. to The Bay Center Market at Harborview Rd. Al Krause and Ruth Higgins were assistants, transporters, temporary housing providers and parade organizers.

A crowd estimated at well over 2000 enthusiastic on-lookers cheered all 30-plus entries in the parade.

Special thanks to Lenore Weishaupt who was Registrar Extra-Ordinaire and to Bea and Earl Ball who took on the awesome task of judging the entries.

Prizes donated by Outer Island Expeditions, Massages by Renee, Sandcastle Resorts, Birch Bay Hair Care Salon and Gallery, Oltman Insurance, the C Shop, Vacationville, Homestead NW & Birch Bay Water Slides, and Rozy Olson, Realtor went to the Birch Bay Beach Babes, the Lions Club, Leisure Park (in two categories), Legacy Vacation Rentals, Northwest Parks and Recreation, Terry Dixon and Mike Jeffcoat (Car Category), Birch Bay Bible Community Church and the C Shop (they didn't win the prize they donated).

Regrettably, the Chums are going to have to try again next year for a prize, but their reward was in the pleasure of participation.
